‘College to career’ event is a growing success

Tameside College hosts taster day for students to gain insight into studying higher level qualifications, in partnership with Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT).

Engineering students from the college took part in the ‘college to career’ event on Tuesday 29th April, to learn more about the courses available to them with the college, post-further education.

During the event, students took part in a range of activities including; a STEM activities session where they were tasked with building RC cars using programmable Lego Spike kits, a HE taster session in the college’s state of the art robotics room and a presentation from GMIoT staff and a former student on the benefits of the qualifications.

Tameside College, in partnership with GMIoT, offers a range of higher education qualifications across computing (cyber security), electronic engineering and mechanical engineering.

This is the second ‘college to career’ event the college has hosted, after the first, which focused on computing related qualifications, received positive feedback from participants.

Helen Booth, higher education quality officer at Tameside College, said: “Events like this are a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore their future pathways and experience the progression routes available to them right here at the college. The enthusiasm and engagement from students shows just how valuable these days are in helping them make informed decisions about higher level study.”
