Tameside College has been confirmed as a core further education partner in the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT), a collaborative partnership between higher and further education institutions and industry partners.
Institutes of Technology (IoTs) are the government’s flagship programme designed to provide higher-level technical education, with a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects. They offer students clear pathways to technical employment, with industry input ensuring that skills gaps are addressed.
The GMIoT will operate on a hub and spoke model, with the University of Salford as the lead partner. It will provide state-of-the-art training facilities to help address the skills gap in key sectors such as engineering, computing, and construction.
The GMIoT will offer a range of courses designed to equip students with the technical skills and knowledge required to thrive in the modern workforce. It will support local economic growth by training the next generation of highly skilled workers.
