Tameside College ‘innovates’ with business

Tameside College has taken another step towards supporting employers in the region.

Beyond its traditional remit of delivering skills, higher education and apprenticeships to boost the local economy, Tameside College has now opened a Business Innovation Hub. The initiative is a result of a £7.3 million investment of 33 colleges in ‘Innovation City Regions’ in Glasgow, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands.

The Greater Manchester Innovation Programme builds the capacity of further education colleges to enhance their links with local businesses to challenge low productivity through innovation.

The Business Innovation Hub at Tameside College is led by Pam Mistry, business innovation adviser and Bhavna Parmar, business innovation co-ordinator.  The team has been busy engaging employers with guided tours of college facilities and organising events to promote links to the local economy.

Pam Mistry, said: “We have had a great response from employers who are keen to contribute to the development of the college curriculum and also benefit from the expertise and technology in the college. Visitors have been pleasantly surprised at the level of investment at the college which includes a 360 degree immersive learning environment, mechatronics workshop, nursing and childcare suites.”

The innovation team has launched an event on Thursday 26th September to promote the understanding of artificial intelligence in business and is planning an ‘innovation roadshow’ on Friday 22nd November as a finale to the World Skills UK national finals week.
