Ofsted commends teacher training at Tameside College

Initial teacher education (ITE) courses at Tameside College have been praised by Ofsted during a recent inspection.

The highlight of the report includes ‘strong standards’ in two categories: inclusion and also professional behaviours, personal development and wellbeing.

Inspectors arrived at their verdict during a four-day assessment of the higher education: Initial Teacher Education, teacher training programme at the Ashton-under-Lyne campus in February 2026.  Tameside College is one of the first 5 further education colleges in the country to be inspected under the new Ofsted ITE framework that was introduced in January 2026.

The inspectors spoke highly of students: ‘trainees conduct themselves maturely in sessions, contribute thoughtfully to discussions and collaborate effectively’.

Teachers and managers were also praised in the report: ‘leaders foster a highly inclusive culture that permeates throughout the provider’.  Inspectors also report: ‘the curriculum is informed by a wide range of relevant research’ and ‘teacher educators and mentors are experienced and knowledgeable about the ITE curriculum’.

Jackie Moores, Principal and CEO at Tameside College said: ‘We are delighted with the inspection report.  It reflects accurately the progress and achievements we have made in delivering high quality teacher training programmes. This is not only great news for Tameside College but also the residents of the borough and our potential future teachers. It is further evidence that the values and standards we embed throughout the college is enhancing the learning experience of students.’
