Former adult student at Tameside College, Charlotte Metcalfe, is a rising star in sport and her studies.

Charlotte, who completed an access to higher education qualification in social sciences with the college in June of this year, is now a current Team GB athlete in weightlifting too.

She recently won a silver medal at the Global Powerlifting Committee’s World Championships in Slovakia, competing in the deadlift category. On top of this, Charlotte, who is just 20, has broken four British and European weightlifting records in previous competitions.

Alongside her busy schedule as a Team GB athlete, Charlotte is now employed as a civil and commercial mediator with the International Mediation Institute and is currently studying to become a barrister.

Charlotte recently visited the college to meet current students and to donate her Team GB shirt, which has been signed and will now be displayed in the college’s gym to inspire others.

Charlotte said: “My next goal is to set the European and world records by the time I turn 21, which would be brilliant. After that, I am aiming to transition into competing in the Commonwealth Games and hopefully even further. Alongside this, becoming a barrister when I complete my qualification would cap my hard work off. Thank you to the college for having me back to meet current students.”
