Further Education Initial Teacher Education (FE ITE) Bursaries

The Department for Education offers bursaries to attract high-quality individuals into teaching priority subjects in the FE sector. These bursaries are available for pre-service ITE courses and are designed to support the training of FE teachers in high-priority subject areas.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be eligible for student support in England
  • Hold GCSE grade C/4 or above in English and mathematics
  • Have at least a Level 3 qualification in their subject of training or appropriate professional experience
  • Be taking a qualifying pre-service ITE course in England
  • Not already possess a Diploma in Education and Training (DET) or equivalent
  • Not hold or be eligible for EYTS, QTS, or QTLS status
  • Intend to seek an FE teaching post in England after qualification
Important Notes
  • Bursaries are not guaranteed for all eligible candidates.
  • Applications are processed through FE ITE providers, not individual trainees.
  • Providers must apply on behalf of trainees to ITT.Funding@education.gov.uk.
  • Trainees should be informed about bursary awards before the start of their ITE course.
  • Bursaries are fixed for the duration of the ITE programme.
  • Paid teaching work contributing to training disqualifies trainees from receiving the bursary.
