Graduation ceremony celebrates success of higher education students

Tameside College graduates celebrate successes with higher education graduation ceremony.

Students who have completed their qualifications with the college took part in the ceremony on 4th December, at Dukinfield Town Hall.

Guests included family and friends of the graduates, Tony Murphy, lecturer in psychology and criminology at the Open University, college governors, Nicola Wellland, deputy principal at Tameside College and teachers.

Graduates paraded into the ceremony, followed by speeches from Tony and Nicola, who celebrated their achievements and highlighted the importance of higher education in shaping students' careers.

Tony, said: “Graduation is not just a celebration of academic success but a testament to resilience, growth, and transformation. Today marks the beginning of a new journey, one filled with opportunities and challenges that you are prepared to embrace with confidence and ambition. As you move forward, carry with you the friendships, skills, and self-assurance you’ve gained, and continue to learn, evolve, and make a positive impact on the world around you. Congratulations to each of you on reaching this remarkable milestone!"

Students graduating studied on a variety of courses with the college, ranging from mechanical engineering and computing to teaching assistance and early years.

The ceremony was hosted to coincide with national T-levels Week, which is an annual event designed to raise awareness of the opportunities T-levels can offer students and celebrate those who have progressed after completing the qualification. Two students, Omar Greco and Kryton Simon, graduated at the ceremony after completing a HTQ in computing, a qualification that serves as a potential progression route from a T-Level.

Nicola Welland said: “Today we gather to celebrate a major milestone in your learning journey. This is a moment to honour all you’ve achieved through your hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm. You have shown incredible dedication, balancing studies with life’s demands, and now, with your qualifications, new doors open for you. You are not only more skilled and employable, but you also embody the perseverance it takes to succeed. Congratulations to the class of 2023/24, your achievements inspire us all."
